Well it WAS only a matter of time before the ukulele would take its place in a St. Patrick’s Day Parade and its fitting it should be in an Irish Parade. Our good friend and fellow uker, Ciaran Allen has been approached by DLRCOCO about the possibility of a ukulele group taking part in the first ever Stepaside Patricks Day parade. Ciaran is putting together a book of ukulele standards for the parade and a joint group from UkuHooley in Dun Laoghaire and Rugs in Rathfarnham are practising to take part. Ciaran says he would welcome any ukulele players to come along and join in “It will be starting at 1.00pm on Monday 17th (groups to be there at 12.30pm) opposite Kilgobbin Church (Kilgobbin Lane) and then walking into Stepaside where we will be playing on stage.”
The Rathfarnham Ukulele Group started last year in Rathfarnham. This is their first video – Elbow’s “One Day Like This”. A great bunch of ukulele players and newcomers are welcome.
RUGS meet on Mondays @ 7-9.30 in the Educate Together School on Loreto Avenue Rathfarnham.
