For the second month in a row we had a fantastic turnout at Saturday's UkuHooley.

Its great to see so many enthusiastic ukulele players coming together to share a day of learning some new tunes, looking at each others ukes, playing together and having the opportunity of sharing their love of the uke in a friendly social atmosphere. The only slight disappointment of the day was not to be able to have our usual "Eagles Uke Pub Session" in the afternoon, because of the Rugby international. (Don't lets dwell on the rugby result-far too upsetting!)

The continuing success of the UkuHooley does mean if the group continues to grow as it is at the moment, we will have to consider the possibility of a larger venue. Rachel has made the suggestion of sounding out the local parish hall (directly across the road from our present venue) which if we do move would mean almost no disruption as the car parking etc would remain the same. But we will see how next month goes before making any decisions.

Beginners lesson: (11am-12noon)

The room was almost full for the beginners lesson and once again, thanks to Barry for taking this in hand.
When we originally came up with the idea of the beginner/newcomer class we had no idea it would become as popular numbers as it has , and perhaps we need to look at how best to structure this for the future to properly accommodate the growth. Its all good!

The UkuHooley Session:

We did not have our usual "ceannaire" for the day and "winged it" instead. ( The normal routine is for a different member each month to choose a couple of songs that they know and feel would be interesting for the group to learn, then they bring those songs to the session and the music/tabs/chords are distributed so that everyone can join in.)

Tommy Sheridan again gave one of his highly entertaining presentations and Shay Bagnall (with his usual infectious enthusiasm) had us all playing "Lets twist again" and also showed the similarities in early rock/pop playing on the uke.

In the afternoon, Helena Legaza took over and did a great job presenting a a lovely song that nicely demonstrated another strumming technique. Thanks Helena.

The UkuHooley session rounded off with some excellent and increasingly impressive performances, from anyone who would wants to share a song or tune on the uke. Its really great to see how peoples playing and singing skills are progressing. An opportunity to try things out in a friendly group.

March UkuHooley:

Stephen Cummins is taking up the "baton" to be the Ceannaire for March and so he will be taking responsibility of choosing the songs to present to us on the day.

Nora Aratola has offered to take the Ceannaire role in April.

All in all another good day.....

Thanks everybody!
