So hard to believe the fantastic “West Cork Ukulele Orchestra” have only been together for a little over a year, yet they’ve made a huge impact in music circles and played at a large number of festivals and events including Ireland’s ukulele Festival, “Ukulele Hooley” in August.
Their vocal harmonies are just magic!

Here they perform “Take On Me” at the Spiegel Tent…enjoy!

Could it get any better? One of my favourite pop songs, The Ronettes’ “Baby I Love You” sung by one of my favourite singers Imelda May………… … and again accompanied by ukulele — Heaven!

If you watched the BBC George Formby documentary a couple of weeks ago, you would have seen the talented Steven Sproat giving a virtuoso performance of the “Formby” style. Here it is again for for you to enjoy. Steven has been a regular visitor to Dublin to give workshops to UkeIreland members and he also appeared on the first Ukulele Hooley in 2009.

Ukuleles & Coffee  Saturday Mornings @ The Tea Rooms, in Peoples Park,  Dun Laoghaire

A good crowd of reasonably friendly looking ukers turned up last Saturday at The Tearooms in The People’s Park in Dun Laoghaire and were made feel very welcome by the genial host, Enda. A very pleasant couple of hours playing ukulele, drinking tea & coffee and general nonsense ensued and seemed to be enjoyed by all. General consensus is that it is a success so this is just a little reminder we’re going to be there each Saturday (including tomorrow)  So, if your around  between 11am and noon a group of us will be there enjoying the tea or coffee and fiddling with our ukes so why not come and join in.

So. there it is folks its completely informal so just drop by, starting  between 11 and 11.30ish and running ’til lunch

Motley crew of “the morning after the night before” ukesters, Dan Scanlon (Ukulele Ireland’s “Godfather”), Ken Middleton & Manitoba Hal attempting a uke version of “Hey Joe”, made famous by the late Jimi Hendrix. One of those musical moments that don’t quite make journey intended but are magic for all the right reasons – ukes and happy moments!

I was trying to think of something clever to say to introduce this delightful and enjoyable version of “In The Mood” by The Sweet Hollywaiians…when I realised I had said all I needed to!
