New Six Week Ukulele Course For Beginners : Starting February 9th.

Starting on Saturday February 9th is a six week ukulele course for beginners. It’s being run by Joe Byrne, known to many through UkuHooley. Joe (who has been playing stringed instruments for over forty years) is passionate about this course to introduce the ukulele to complete beginners.

The course will run for six consecutive weeks at the Dun Laoghaire Club, Eblana Avenue, Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin and the total cost of the six lessons is €40. For bookings (essential) and enquiries email Joe at : jbyrne2473@gmail.com

Joe says of the course, “This series of classes is for beginners…if you would like to try Ukulele…. or if you have a few chords and tunes and are strumming along at home… but would like to learn a bit more and maybe reach the stage of playing along with others. No previous knowledge of music is needed at all. We will begin by seeing how the Ukulele works, getting tuned up, finding notes on the finger board and making chord shapes. We will learn how chords are constructed and some rhythm and strumming patterns.”

“I will help you with effective practice methods and how to avoid hand problems…oh, and yes, I nearly forgot, we will play a few tunes as well.
Remember we say that we “Play music”, that’s right PLAY :-)
With the Ukulele this will be fun.”

New Ukulele Club and Classes for Young Beginner Ukers

Little Strummers is a new ukulele club for 8 to 12 yr olds offering a 10 week course of ukulele instruction. This is a really good new initiative which has been badly needed for some time. I get enquiries nearly every week through the UkeIreland website from parents wanting to know where they can get lessons for their children so if you have a child wanting lessons or know anyone who does, maybe you could alert them about the “Little Strummers”.
The people running the course are Shane McGrath (a very experienced and accomplished musician) who studied the Chalmers Doane Ukulele method in Canada where it has been adopted by the Canadian School Authorities for nearly thirty years. Co-running the course is Nora Artola. Nora is also an very experienced performer and uke teacher.
